Lights FC goalkeeper’s diving stop against Sacramento earns top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Las Vegas Lights FC goalkeeper Thomas Olsen has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 31 of the 2018 season as his remarkable double-save against Sacramento Republic FC last Saturday night at Papa Murphy’s Park took the top spot in the weekly online poll.

Olsen kept the match scoreless early in the second half of both sides’ regular-season finale as he dove at full stretch to push Jure Matjasic’s initial shot off the post, before quickly reacting to the rebound and denying Christian Eissele from close range.

Olsen’s save earned 47 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. OKC Energy FC’s Bryan Byars finished second with 32 percent for his acrobatic reaction save as he tipped Kadeem Dacres’ shot over the crossbar in a two-save shutout against Saint Louis FC last Saturday, while San Antonio FC’s Matt Cardone took third for his spectacular finger-tip stop to deny Jesus Enriquez late in the second half of his side’s 1-1 draw with Rio Grande Valley FC last Saturday.
