Remarkable victory-preserving save against Rowdies claims honor for Independence shot-stopper

TAMPA, Fla. – Charlotte Independence goalkeeper Brandon Miller has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 30 of the 2018 season as he finished top of the weekly online poll for a remarkable point-blank save against the Tampa Bay Rowdies last Saturday night at Al Lang Stadium that helped preserve victory for the visitors.

The holder of the league’s single-season shutout record until this season, Miller has helped Charlotte end the regular season on an upswing with the side undefeated in its last seven games after last Saturday’s win. Miller played a key role in that victory with five saves that included an outstanding denial of Rowdies forward Sebastian Guenzatti’s point-blank header with four minutes to go.

Miller’s save earned 45 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. The New York Red Bulls II’s Evan Louro finished second on 32 percent for his kick-save to keep out North Carolina FC midfielder Steven Miller’s acrobatic volley last Saturday night at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park, while Reno 1868 FC’s Matt Bersano took third on 15 percent for his full-stretch denial of Phoenix Rising FC’s Billy Forbes last Saturday night at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex.
