TAMPA, Fla. – For a second consecutive year, San Antonio FC goalkeeper Matt Cardone has won the USL’s #FearTheBeard poll, claiming a wide margin of victory over Louisville City FC’s Brian Ownby and FC Cincinnati’s Forrest Lasso to sit on top of the ballot conducted over the past week.

Cardone’s impressive facial hair has been supplemented this season by a shaggy mane of hair that continues to make him a popular cult figure in San Antonio’s squad. He’s also rebounded well this year after suffering an early-season injury in 2017 to make 11 appearances for SAFC this season, recording one shutout and 28 saves while holding a 63.6 save percentage.

More than 4,000 votes were cast over the course of the week, giving Cardone a little over one-third of the total. Here are some of his highlights from the 2018 season.
