Portland Timbers 2 goalkeeper’s diving stop against Sacramento earns top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Portland Timbers 2 goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 29 of the 2018 season as his spectacular diving save against Sacramento Republic FC last Saturday night at Papa Murphy’s Park took top spot in the weekly online poll.

McIntosh kept Portland’s deficit at one in the battle between playoff-bound Western Conference sides as he shifted his weight quickly to react to a back-post header by Sacramento’s Villyan Bijev and came up with a brilliant left-handed stop to keep the ball out.

McIntosh’s save earned 43 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. OKC Energy FC’s Cody Laurendi finished second with 39 percent for his outstanding reaction save as he tipped Carlos Alvarez’s header over the crossbar in an 11-save shutout against Las Vegas Lights FC last Saturday, while Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC’s Moise Pouaty took third for his spectacular stop at full stretch to deny Sebastian Velasquez’s driven finish in first-half stoppage time of its match against the Real Monarchs SLC last Saturday.
