Republic FC goalkeeper wins online poll for second time in past three weeks

TAMPA, Fla. – Sacramento Republic FC goalkeeper Josh Cohen has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 26 of the 2018 season, winning the award for the second time in the past three weeks and the third time overall this season after making a standout save against Seattle Sounders FC 2 last Saturday night that finished top of the weekly online poll.

Cohen sits second in the USL with 94 saves this season and recorded a four-save shutout against Seattle at Papa Murphy’s Park last Saturday night for his ninth clean sheet of 2018. The 26-year-old helped preserve that shutout in the 3-0 victory with a late penalty-kick save that saw Cohen make a diving stop to the left corner of the net to keep out David Estrada’s spot kick for S2.

Cohen’s save earned 50 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. OKC Energy FC’s Bryan Byars took second on 26 percent for his denial of Orange County’s Aodhan Quinn shortly before halftime at Champions Soccer Stadium, while the Swope Park Rangers’ Adrian Zendejas finished third on 18 percent for his reflex save on a point-blank volley by Fresno FC’s Danny Barrera last Sunday at Children’s Mercy Park.
