Individual meet-and-greet after intra-squad scrimmage builds bonds between players, fans

PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising FC returns to action next Wednesday night when it plays host to Rio Grande Valley FC in the USL Game of the Week at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex (10:30 p.m. ET | Match Center | ESPN3), but on Thursday the club hosted its season-ticket holders for a special night that included an intra-squad scrimmage and meet-and-greet with the squad that continued to build bonds between the club and its community.

Under the lights at the club’s home venue, fans got an inside look at the team as it competed and interacted on the field as part of the build-up to the game with the Toros. After a run of three consecutive victories that moved the side into second place in the USL’s Western Conference, the night was a way for the players and coaches to say thank you for the strong support the club has played in front of for a second consecutive season.

“Playing a match like this in front of our fans in a really quiet, intimate setting, it’s an experience that I don’t think you get very often, for the fans to see how the guys interact amongst each other and compete,” said Rising FC Head Coach Rick Schantz. “The best thing is after the game, the players all want to interact with the fans. They sign autographs, I’m sure they’re talking about their kids, this is why we do it. It’s entertainment, it’s professional sports, and they know that the fans are the most important thing to all of us and all of our jobs.”
