COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Wednesday that forward Shane Malcolm had been called up to the Guam National team that will compete in the first round of qualifying for the 2019 East Asian Football Federation Championship that kicks off on Sunday in Mongolia.

Malcolm, who qualifies to play for Guam through his paternal grandmother, has made more than 20 appearances for Guam since his first selection in 2014 and has scored twice for the side. His first goal came in a 2-1 victory against Chinese Taipei during qualifying for the 2014 EAFF Championship and his other came in 2016 in a 3-2 loss to Hong Kong.

Guam will square off with hosts Mongolia, Macau and the Northern Mariana Islands for a place in the second preliminary round of qualifying, with the group-winner advancing to face Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong and North Korea in November for a place in the final tournament hosted by South Korea next year.

Earlier this year, Malcolm became the first Switchbacks player in club history to be called up to play for his national team as an active member of the Switchbacks. Malcolm has recorded five goals and four assists in 26 appearances for the Switchbacks in 2018, putting him second on the team in goals and tied for the team-lead in assists.

Malcolm will miss the Switchbacks' game on Wednesday night against Real Monarchs SLC at Weidner Field as well as the club’s contest this Saturday night against the LA Galaxy II at StubHub Center.
