Abdul-Salaam arrives from NYCFC, Blackmon from LAFC to bolster back line

PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising FC has made two loan additions from Major League Soccer clubs to bolster its back line ahead of the final stretch of the 2018 USL regular season. The club announced it had acquired defenders Saad Abdul-Salaam from New York City FC and Tristan Blackmon from Los Angeles FC on loan for the remainder of the 2018 season.

Both NYCFC and LAFC have the right to recall their respective players at any point.

Abdul-Salaam has made four appearances and recorded one assist this season for NYCFC, his first at the club. The 26-year-old had previously spent three seasons with Sporting Kansas City, where he was named the club’s Defender of the year in 2016. Abdul-Salaam has made 68 regular-season appearances in Major League Soccer and three in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs during his career.

Blackmon has made nine appearances, including five starts for LAFC during his first professional season after being selected with the No. 3 pick of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. The 22-year-old is a former standout at University of the Pacific, where he made 68 starts and tallied 16 goals to go along with nine assists for the Tigers. Blackmon also previously played for the Premier Development League’s Burlingame Dragons FC.
