San Antonio defender’s blistering strike is crowned with top spot in weekly fan poll

TAMPA, Fla. – San Antonio FC defender Darnell King has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 21 of the 2018 season as his tremendous first-time strike that opened the scoring for SAFC in its victory against the LA Galaxy II took top spot in the weekly online poll.

King leads San Antonio in assists this season with five, but his first goal of the 2018 campaign was worth the wait for fans at Toyota Field. Following a corner kick that saw a pair of SAFC players attempt bicycle-kick finishes in the penalty area, the ball popped loose to the top of the box where King stepped into a perfectly-hit blast that picked out the top-right corner of the net.

King’s goal earned 43 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday, edging out Sacramento Republic FC’s Villyan Bijev into second place on 39 percent for his excellent individual dribble and finish that proved the winner in the Highway 99 Derby against Fresno FC at Papa Murphy’s Park. The Portland Timbers 2’s Marvin Loria took third with 10 percent for his 60-yard run and finish on the counterattack against Orange County last Wednesday that landed on the ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 that night.
