TAMPA, Fla. – Charleston Battery forward Ataulla Guerra has been voted the USL Player of the Month for July, as he led the league with five goals across the month, helping the Battery go undefeated through six games. The Battery went 5-0-1 to move into second place in the Eastern Conference standings as July concluded.
A Trinidad & Tobago international, Guerra is putting together a career year for the Battery as the versatile veteran moved into the central attacking role for the club this season. After scoring seven goals and three assists in his first two seasons at the club, the 30-year-old has recorded 12 goals and two assists this season to drive the Battery’s attack toward another berth in the USL Cup Playoffs.
“As a coach, it is always great to see players perform like Ataulla did in July,” said Battery Head Coach Mike Anhaeuser, who on Wednesday was named USL Coach of the Month for July. “He really worked hard in preseason and the offseason and has proved to himself and the league that he can do more than just set up his teammates. We hope that he can keep this going all season.”
Guerra received 43 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL Technical Committee, a national panel of independent media representing every USL market and an online fan vote held at USLSoccer.com. Fresno FC’s Juan Pablo Caffa finished second with 25 percent after leading the Foxes to an undefeated month with three goals and two assists in four contests.
