North Carolina goalkeeper earns honor for second time this season for save vs. TFC II

TAMPA, Fla. – North Carolina FC goalkeeper Alex Tambakis has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 19 of the 2018 season, his second such honor this season, as his full-stretch save against Toronto FC II this past Saturday finished top of the weekly online poll.

Tambakis had previously claimed the weekly award in Week 15 for an outstanding stop against Louisville City FC, and the young shot-stopper was at it again as he made a key save to keep the game level against Toronto in a game NCFC went on to win 3-1. Tambakis went at full stretch to deny a fierce long-range strike by TFC II’s Tim Kubel that was set to find the top-left corner of the net.

Tambakis’ save earned 37 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. The Charleston Battery’s Joe Kuzminsky finished second on 31 percent for his outstanding low save to deny Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC’s Neco Brett, while the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ Cody Mizell finished third with 16 percent for his tremendous reflex stop on Indy Eleven’s Eugene Starikov at Al Lang Stadium.
