Spectacular long-range strike in Toros’ victory earns top spot in weekly fan poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Rio Grande Valley FC defender Conor Donovan has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 18 of the 2018 season as his remarkable long-range strike in the Toros’ victory against Las Vegas Lights FC this last Saturday night at H-E-B Park took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Donovan has been better known for keeping opponents off the scoreboard during his career, which included being a member of the U.S. U20 National Team at the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup, but he produced a spectacular finish to open the scoring for the Toros in the final minute of the first half last Saturday night. Donovan’s right-footed blast from 30 yards found the top-left corner of the net to pave the way to a 2-0 victory for RGVFC.

Donovan’s goal earned 45 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday. Fresno FC’s Juan Pablo Caffa finished second on 27 percent for his deceptive free kick bottom-left corner that helped the Foxes to victory against Phoenix Rising FC, while the Charleston Battery’s Gordon Wild finished third on 10 percent for his long-range strike that opened the scoring in Charleston’s victory against Indy Eleven.
