Battery goalkeeper claims narrow victory over Bethlehem’s McGuire in poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Charleston Battery goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 17 of the 2018 season for his fingertip save against North Carolina FC this past weekend at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park, which finished top of the weekly online poll.

Kuzminsky had to have his wits about him as he was well off his line as North Carolina broke forward during the second half, with NCFC midfielder Austin da Luz attempting an audacious chip to beat the Battery goalkeeper. Kuzminsky recovered in just enough time to tip the effort over the crossbar to deny the chance.

Kuzminsky’s save earned 38.5 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday, narrowly edging out Bethlehem Steel FC’s Jake McGuire on 37.7 percent for his excellent double-save late against Penn FC last Friday night. OKC Energy FC’s Bryan Byars took third on 13 percent for an outstanding save on a curling shot by Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC’s Marty Maybin.
