Bruce Claims Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week

19-year-old San Antonio forward nets jaw-dropping curler to claim weekly fan poll

TAMPA, Fla. – San Antonio FC’s Alex Bruce has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 17 of the 2018 regular season after hitting an exceptional curling effort into the top-right corner against OKC Energy FC on the Fourth of July.

The 19-year-old forward came on as a substitute in the 66th minute before bending the ball up and around Energy FC netminder Matt Van Oekel, who stood in the six-yard box helpless as the ball sailed by him in the 77th minute. The goal is Bruce’s third of the campaign.

Bruce’s goal earned 65 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that ended on Thursday. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC’s Christiano Francois finished in second with 15 percent of the total vote after his incredible finish against North Carolina FC, while OKC Energy FC’s Jose Barril came in third with 13 percent of the total vote following his sensational volley against San Antonio FC.
