IRVINE, Calif. — Orange County SC and Reno 1868 FC put on an entertaining show at Champions Soccer Stadium at OC Great Park but couldn’t be separated as the teams fought out a 2-2 draw. The hosts started the match well, and Giovanni Ramos Godoy went agonizingly close in the ninth minute getting on the end of a perfect cross from Thomas Enevoldsen but he could only send it across the face of goal. After those opening moments, Reno came into the match with Duke Lacroix looking especially dangerous, but OC goalkeeper Andre Rawls was strong, making three saves in the first half-hour. In the 54th minute, Reno broke through after a strong run from Antoine Hoppenot committed Jos Hooivelt and resulted in a foul in the penalty area, allowing Brian Brown to step up and convert from the spot for his fourth goal of the season. The hosts almost responded when Enevoldsen played a perfect through ball for Michael Seaton but Reno goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski was quick off his line to keep his side in front. The equalizer came in the 62nd minute, however, as slick passing from Aodhan Quinn played through Seaton, who squared for Enevoldsen at point-blank range and he made no mistake. That spurred Orange County on and seven minutes later a corner kick put the hosts ahead as Ramos Godoy flicked the ball on from the left for Thomas Juel-Nielsen, who ran onto the ball and poked it home at the far post for his first USL goal. Just when it looked like the hosts would hold on for the win, Reno got back on level terms with seven minutes to go when Danny Musovski used his strength to hold off the defense and place the ball perfectly out of the reach of Rawls. Both teams would push late, creating an entertaining, and dramatic, finish but neither side could find the goal that was needed, forcing the teams to split the points.
