Collaboration with Great Basin Brewing Co. saw fans provide input on final creation

RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC became the latest USL club to unveil its own official beer on Wednesday, with its collaboration with the award-winning Great Basin Brewing Co. named simply “1868” set to be unveiled at the club’s official FIFA World Cup watch parties on June 23.

“Our goal was to make a beer that our fans helped create and with a brewery that was engrained in Northern Nevada,” said Reno 1868 FC General Manager Andy Smith said. “We are excited to announce Great Basin Brewing Co.’s 1868 Blood Orange Blonde, a beer chosen by our fans.”

Following the announcement of the collaboration in March, Great Basin Brewing Co. brewmasters crafted a signature beer that was sampled by 1868 FC fans prior to voting on different options for the club’s inaugural signature beer.

Fans overwhelmingly chose the blood orange blonde through online polling and the internationally recognized brewers at Great Basin Brewing Co. got to work.

“We are excited to partner with Reno 1868 FC and the release Saturday of the ‘1868’ beer,” Great Basin Co. brewmaster and founder Tom Young said. “This has been a project we have been eagerly anticipating for some time now and we are happy to see it get off the ground.

“We believe the fans will enjoy what our award winning brewmasters have crafted that incorporates both the northern Nevada culture and our signature Great Basin Brewing Co. taste.”

Fans will be able to taste the beer on June 23 at Great Basin Brewing Co. during the club’s watch parties at Great Basin Brewing Co.’s South Reno (5525 S Virginia St.) and Taps and Tanks (1155 S Rock Blvd #490, Reno) location.
