TULSA, Okla. —Saint Louis FC midfielder Joey Calistri returned to his former club and produced a phenomenal performance to help his side to a 3-0 win against Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field on Saturday night. Saint Louis opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Calistri’s run drew two defenders, which allowed him to square for Kyle Greig, who turned on the ball and scored with a well-placed shot. The goal was an appropriate reward for the visitors who came out on the front foot from the opening whistle. That continued throughout the half as Saint Louis had almost all of the chances, with 14 shots in the first half, but the Roughnecks FC defense held out, keeping it a one-goal game at halftime. The Tulsa defense was made to work hard in the opening minutes of the half, and Saint Louis thought it had doubled the lead when the ball was in the back of the net in the 58th minute but the referee adjudged a push in the penalty area arrived before the goal. That didn’t matter as Calistri continued to haunt his former club just one minute later as Albert Dikwa dragged in two defenders, allowing him to square for Calistri who made no mistake, placing it perfectly into the top corner. Calistri’s phenomenal night continued when he managed to show his skill to score the third goal as he gathered the ball at the edge of the area and ran in along the byline, turning his defender by spinning on the ball and then sending it between Roughnecks goalkeeper Fabian Cerda’s legs. With a three-goal lead, the visitors were content, cruising to a big win, their second in a row.

Scoring
17’ – STL – Kyle Greig (Joey Calistri)

68’ – STL – Joey Calistri (Lewis Hilton)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Just when it looked like things were turning around for Tulsa Roughnecks FC with only two losses in its last nine matches it’s back to the drawing board for the side. Now suffering through two straight losses the side never looked in this match, and now needs to rectify its problems quickly as it still awaits its first win of the season.

  • 2. Joey Calistri was one of the catalysts to Tulsa Roughnecks FC reaching the USL Cup Playoffs a season ago when he was on loan from the Chicago Fire, and on Saturday night he showed that if Saint Louis is going to make its first trip to the postseason he could play a starring role as well. With two goals and one assist at the venue he called home a season ago, it was definitely a very happy trip back to Tulsa for the attacking midfielder.

  • 3. A season that has held so much promise is starting to show for Saint Louis FC, which has now won two games in a row to move into the top eight in the Western Conference for the time being. With a game against conference leader Real Monarchs SLC next week, the club's three-goal win should have confidence flowing ahead of a tough test.
