COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Swope Park Rangers bounce back after falling to Saint Louis FC on June 2 by topping Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 1-0 at Weidner Field on Saturday evening. Hadji Barry netted his fifth goal of the regular season in the 40th minute after stealing the ball off Jordan Schweitzer just outside the penalty box before sprinting towards goal and finishing a right-footed shot. Colorado Springs outshot the Rangers 16-9, but the home side was only able to put four shots on frame all evening. One of the Switchbacks’ best chances to equalize came in the 72nd minute, when Saeed Robinson cut inside and hit a left-footed effort on frame from inside the box, but Rangers goalkeeper Eric Dick made a strong save, punching the ball away and to safety, to secure the clean sheet. With the result, the Rangers improve to 6-3-4 in the regular season, while the Switchbacks fall to 5-8-2 in 2018.

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Hadji Barry continues to tear it up for the Rangers, scoring his fifth goal and third game-winner of the season on Saturday. The 40th minute tally was his fourth in seven games, which includes strikes against Phoenix Rising FC, OKC Energy FC and Saint Louis FC.
  • 2. The Rangers have now won both meetings between these two sides for the 2018 USL regular season and improves its overall record against Colorado Springs to 4-0-1, having recorded two wins in 2017 and played to a draw in 2016.
  • 3. Colorado Springs had been exceptional at home this season prior to Saturday’s match, as the Switchbacks lost for just the second time at Weidner Field this campaign. They had scored eight goals en route to securing four wins and two draws, but the Switchbacks could not find a breakthrough, which has been an unfortunate theme for the team. Saturday’s game was the eighth shutout the team has suffered this year.
