IRVINE, Calif. — Orange County SC scored early against Fresno FC and never looked back, cruising to a 3-0 victory at Champions Soccer Stadium on Saturday night. A missed clearance from the Fresno FC defense was severely punished when it fell right to Orange County forward Thomas Enevoldsen who was able to poke his finish home with some venom in just the 10th minute. Getting that early lead didn’t hold back the hosts, who kept up the pressure but were unable to find a second goal heading to the halftime break with a one-goal lead. Orange County's control would continue in the second half when a free kick by Koji Hashimoto threatened Fresno’s goal but the Foxes keeper Kyle Reynish was somehow able to dive in the air and get on top of the ball. Orange County doubled its lead in the 66th minute, however, as a corner from Aodhan Quinn found substitute Michael Seaton, who easily headed home at the near post. OCSC's win was wrapped up in stoppage time when Enevoldsen played the ball through for substitute Giovanni Godoy, who was able to calmly place the ball past Reynish to wrap up the big win.

Scoring
10’ – OC – Thomas Enevoldsen
66’ – OC – Michael Seaton (Aodhan Quinn)
90+3’ – OC – Giovanni Godoy (Thomas Enevoldsen)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Fresno FC is still waiting for its first comeback win after falling on the road to its Southern California rival. The Foxes continued to struggle after giving up the opening goal and finished with only one shot on target through the whole match, making things too easy for Orange County.

  • 2. After starting the season strongly OCSC had been brought back to earth with a two-game winless run coming into this match. With a run of three straight all-California matches  starting with Saturday night's contest, getting back into form was vitally important for the side after not winning since April 28th.

  • 3. While Orange County only managed one more shot than Fresno, the shots on target count was 6-1 for the hosts who were virtually never troubled. That would prove to be the difference, as OC’s win puts within reach of the top four in the Western Conference standings, while continuing Fresno’s recent woes.

USLSoccer.com Man of the Match:

Thomas Enevoldsen, Orange County SC – Enevoldsen didn’t take things for granted, having scored in the 10th minute he kept on fighting and added an assist in stoppage time to seal the win.
