Double-save off penalty kick against Battery takes top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Ottawa Fury FC goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 10 of the 2018 season as his excellent double-save off a penalty kick against the Charleston Battery last Saturday night at MUSC Health Stadium finished top of the weekly online poll.

The Canadian international had recorded three consecutive shutouts going into the clash with Charleston and made it four in a row thanks to a pair of excellent saves that earned Fury FC a point on the road in a 0-0 draw. Crépeau first got down to keep out Battery forward Ataulla Guerra’s initial penalty kick, and then recovered in time to keep out Nico Rittmeyer on the rebound.

Crépeau’s save earned 31 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. Swope Park Rangers goalkeeper Eric Dick finished second with 25 percent for his diving penalty kick save that kept out Rio Grande Valley FC’s Todd Wharton from the spot, while the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ Akira Fitzgerald finished third with 22 percent for his fingertip stop that kept out Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC forward Neco Brett to preserve a point for Tampa Bay late.
