OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC announced on Thursday it had signed midfielder Kalif Alhassan to a contract, subject to league and federation approval, as the club looked to add to its attacking options for the remainder of the 2018 season.

Alhassan played most recently with Dila Gori of the Erovnuli Liga in European country of Georgia and with the New York Cosmos. The 27-year-old has made 139 appearances as a professional, including stints in Major League Soccer with the Portland Timbers and elsewhere with the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Minnesota United FC. Alhassan played 93 matches with Portland, scoring five goals, 12 assists and played 5,078 minutes. He is one of three players in MLS history to record an assist in each of his first three home matches.

Alhassan has also been a member of Ghana’s National Team system since 2007 and played with both the U17 and U20 National Teams.  He began his professional career with Liberty Professionals in Ghana’s GLO Premier League.

“Anytime you get to add a player with the experience and technical quality of Alhassan, it’s a good thing for the club,” said Cooke.  “Kalif has played at a very high level, he’s been successful at a very high level.  He’s been with a number of high-profile organizations and done really well with those clubs.  I think with his ability on the ball and his ability to find a final pass and create opportunities for other people, I have no doubt he’s going to be a fantastic addition to the group.”

Energy FC will take on Tulsa Roughencks FC this Saturday in the second round of the Black Gold Derby this season. OKC holds the edge in the series after a 1-0 win on the opening weekend of the season, and would regain the wrench with a win at ONEOK Field in Tulsa after the Roughnecks claimed the prize a season ago.
