Bethlehem Steel FC head coach Brendan Burke and Santi Moar talk about the win at Indy Eleven and the club's upcoming contest at Ottawa

Bethlehem Steel FC Head Coach Brendan Burke
On picking up the win at Indy Eleven…
“Really pleased with the effort. I thought in terms of the style of play, we were similar teams but I’m glad that ultimately our quality showed through in Fabian [Herbers] and Santi [Moar] on the first goal. I thought in terms of our energy level, we were fantastic. If we can replicate that like we did against Red Bulls II, that same grit and fight and combine that with our style of play from the first few games then I think we’ll be exactly where we want to be and now it’s about maintaining the momentum.”

On what has contributed to winning three of the last four matches…
"We said when were in little down spell that we were performing at a really high level and not getting results so it was about believing and sticking to the system and sticking together. The guys have done that and that is 100 percent credit to the players.”

On preparing for Ottawa and the challenges they present…
"You are playing in their environment which is difficult when you play anyone and Ottawa are in good form right now. They are similar to us and have put a few good performances together and not gotten results and now they have put some good performances together against good teams. They drew Red Bulls II at home 0-0, they beat Atlanta 2-0 and got a draw at Charleston where we weren’t able to. We are very aware that they are a strong team that is experienced across the board. There aren’t many young players on their team and the ones that are, like Adonijah Reid are game changers.”

On putting Santi Moar at the number 10 role…
"We wanted to find a way to get him on the field and I’ll always do that because I think Santi is a special talent with the potential to move through to the first team and that’s our primary job. I have a firm belief in him and I hope at some point he gets that opportunity. He trained with them this week, which I thought was fantastic. Jim [Curtin] recognized the same things that we were seeing, brought him in and I think he did well in training [Tuesday]. I took the off day to go down and watch him train there so happy for him but that was all about making sure he is on the field because he is a game-changing talent at this level.”

On Prosper Chiluya’s goal and if you were expecting him to shoot it…
"I was expecting him to hit it because he has shown that instinct over the last couple weeks to put the ball in dangerous areas which is a great instinct. I did not expect him to hit it as cleanly and as hard as he did and I think he caught everyone in the stadium off guard with that one, including maybe himself.”

On Aidan Apodaca trying to solidify his position on the team…
"Continue to do what he is doing, he just helped us win a game at Indy Eleven against a very experienced team and one of the most experienced teams in terms of the number of games played at a high level. I thought Aidan was a big part of leading the line in keeping their center backs pinned back and his hold up play was good, bringing guys into the game. Goals and assists are the next steps for him to show through and we know he has those in him.”

Bethlehem Steel FC midfielder Santi Moar
On what has contributed to winning three of the last four matches…
"I think we are finishing the chances that we’re creating. We’re being good defensively as well with our goal being a clean sheet or only allow one goal. I think those have been key.”

If picking up the first road win of the season relaxes the squad….
"Definitely. We three tough places to play in Tampa, Louisville and Charleston and I think right now we are going to play our road games with confidence to get points.”

On if beating Ottawa on the road last season gives confidence…
"We know about that and it does help. We have to bring that energy and mentality to get three points.”
