SAN ANTONIO – Despite having more of the ball and more chances San Antonio FC could not get more goals against Tulsa Roughnecks FC, forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Toyota Field on Saturday night. Things started well for SAFC, opening the scoring just six minutes into the match after Tulsa failed to clear the ball, allowing Omar Gordon to get on the end of a pass from Greg Cochrane and slam it home off the crossbar. From there Tulsa attempted to respond but the SAFC defense, which has been growing in confidence in recent weeks kept the visitors out, keeping it 1-0 at the break. Often half time can break a team’s focus, and that may well have been what happened for the hosts as Roughnecks FC pounced early in the second half to level the scores. A giveaway from the San Antonio midfield allowed Tulsa to go on the counter, with Michael Gamble quickly getting the ball to Joaquin Rivas who hit a powerful strike from distance out of the reach of SAFC goalkeeper Diego Restrepo to stun the home fans. San Antonio tried to push for an equalizer after giving up its lead, but wasteful shooting made things too easy for Tulsa who held on for the win.
