EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC controlled the run of play against the Swope Park Rangers at H-E-B Park on Saturday, but a standout, six-save effort by SPR keeper Eric Dick helped the visitors walk away with a point from a 0-0 draw. Todd Wharton had the opportunity to break the deadlock just before halftime after Bryam Rebellon was ruled to have taken down Jesus Enriquez in the area, but Dick dove towards the left post to deny his effort from the spot. The 23-year-old added three stops in the second half, keeping his side level despite its inability to threaten the Toros’ goal over the final 30 minutes of the match.  With its second clean sheet in three matches, Swope Park moved to 4-2-4 (16 pts) overall while the result leaves RGV at 1-3-6 (9 pts).

#RGVvSPR: Highlights and Opta Box Score

Three Things That Matter:

1. Saturday’s match was the second straight road contest in which Swope Park has kept its opponent off the board following a 1-0 victory over OKC Energy FC on May 5, a match in which Darrin MacLeod turned away all four shots he faced. SPR now ranks fifth among Western Conference teams in shutouts away from home this season.

2. The search for the winning touch continues for first year Head Coach Gerson Echeverry’s Toros side as RGV has now finished level in its last four league matches, three of which have finished scoreless. Rio Grande Valley has avoided defeat in its first six home appearances (1-0-5), but will need to find a way to turn those efforts into three points after totaling just one point through four road matches.

3. With the RGV attack failing to get on the board for the third time in four matches, the side has now failed to take a lead in all four of those matches. Through 10 matches, Rio Grande Valley has played from in front for a total of just over 80 minutes this season.

USLSoccer.com Man of the Match:

Eric Dick, Swope Park Rangers – Dick’s penalty stop was the single most impactful individual contribution of the match and the young keeper was up to the challenge all five times he was tested in the run of play.
