OTTAWAOttawa Fury FC has earned points in four of its last five meetings in the 2018 USL regular season after recording an impressive 2-0 victory against ATL UTD 2 in front of 4,296 fans at TD Place on Saturday afternoon. Steevan Dos Santos scored the game-winning goal in the 26th minute of the match, while Carl Haworth netted the best goal of the match – a fantastic free kick that found the top-left corner and beat ATL UTD 2 goalkeeper Nicholas Caraux in the 35th minute. Ottawa looked in control for a majority of the match, but ATL UTD 2 did have a few opportunities to score and put pressure on the home side. Christopher Goslin had the best opportunity for the visitor, as his free-kick attempt in the 45th minute was hit well, but Ottawa netminder Maxime Crépeau tipped the shot up and over the crossbar to preserve the shutout. With the result, Ottawa improves to 2-4-2 this season, while ATL UTD 2 falls to 1-4-3 this campaign.

Scoring:

26’ – OTT – Steevan Dos Santos (Carl Haworth)
35’ – OTT – Carl Haworth

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Ottawa has finally earned its first home win of the 2018 regular season. After losing to FC Cincinnati and tying North Carolina FC and the New York Red Bulls II, Fury FC turned in arguably its best performance of the season on Saturday to secure the win at TD Place. Numerous players shined during the victory, as goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau recorded his second clean sheet of the season, while captain Carl Haworth provided a spectacular goal and recorded an assist to lead the team.

  • 2. While his name did not appear on the score sheet, as Steevan Dos Santos and Haworth scored the goals at home, Adonijah Reid deserves much of the praise for Ottawa’s first home win of the campaign. Reid had connected well with his teammates in the final third during the beginning of the match, and his run into the box, skill on the ball and pass into the center of the box led to the opening goal of the game for Fury FC. Approximately nine minutes later, his attacking run down the left wing was stopped short, as he was fouled just outside the penalty area, and Haworth fired in the subsequent free kick for the second goal of the match.

  • 3. ATL UTD 2 has fallen in four consecutive games after starting the season with a four-game undefeated run. To make matters worse, in the past four matches, the team has been held scoreless three times. However, Saturday’s match was the third and final away game of a three-game road stretch, as ATL UTD 2 will head back to Coolray Field for a meeting with Toronto FC II.
