Fingertip save to preserve victory for San Antonio earns top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – San Antonio FC goalkeeper Diego Restrepo has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 8 of the 2018 season as his outstanding late save against Fresno FC last Saturday night at Toyota Field finished top of the weekly online poll.

The reigning USL Goalkeeper of the Year, Restrepo claimed his first Save of the Week award of the season thanks to an outstanding fingertip stop that denied the Foxes’ Rony Argueta a late equalizer in San Antonio’s 2-1 victory that moved the club into the top eight in the USL Western Conference standings.

Restrepo’s save earned 42 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. Indy Eleven goalkeeper Owain Fôn Williams finished second with 35 percent for his spectacular diving save to keep out a long-range finish by FC Cincinnati’s Kenney Walker, while Ottawa Fury FC’s Maxime Crepeau finished third with 12 percent for his close-range denial of the New York Red Bulls II’s Kevin Politz that was part of a seven-save shutout.
