SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Thursday the club had signed forward Kyle Murphy. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Murphy joins San Antonio after previously spending the last two seasons with Rio Grande Valley FC, becoming the second former Toros player in SAFC’s squad following the club’s offseason addition of Jose Escalante. In 2017, Murphy led the Toros with seven goals, and recorded three assists in 31 appearances. The 25-year-old was also included in the Houston Dynamo’s squad for the club’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match on June 14, 2017 after he was sent on loan from RGVFC.

“I’m very excited to get here and play for one of the best clubs in the USL with great fans,” said Murphy. “It’s always been fun coming here and playing in a great atmosphere. The guys are great and I am ready to get going.”

Murphy originally joined the Toros at the beginning of the 2016 USL season, and could get a chance to face his former teammates as San Antonio makes the trip to H-E-B Park this Saturday for the first South Texas Derby of the season. Overall in his two seasons with the Toros, Murphy appeared in 56 USL matches, making 32 starts and playing 2,928 total minutes while adding 10 goals and four assists.

USL’s Week Ahead – Rivalries Come to Fore in Big Week

Prior to his professional career, Murphy played four seasons of collegiate soccer at Clemson, scoring 10 goals in 60 games and helping lead Clemson to the 2015 NCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship where the Tigers fell to Stanford.

“Kyle is player the coaching staff has identified over the last couple of years who has been a threat on the attacking side of the ball against us with RGV,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “Now we are very pleased to sign him. He was looking for a club in the offseason, came into training a couple of weeks ago and impressed us, so we are looking forward to him coming in and competing for minutes straight away.”
