Club’s official beer unveiled at brewer’s tap house on Tuesday evening

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Independence became the latest USL club to introduce its own signature beer on Tuesday, with its 1775 Pale Ale collaboration with NoDa Brewing being unveiled at the local brewer’s Tryon St. taproom.

For Independence goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra, who is currently with the club on loan from the Colorado Rapids and is also a home-brewer, the chance to get an up-close look at the creation of the club’s official beer was an enjoyable one.

“It’s really cool,” said Dykstra in a video piece accompanying the announcement. “I’ve always wanted to know more about it and I’ve been lucky to link up with NoDa Brewing Company to see what they do behind the scenes and getting to watch them dry-hop some beer today.”

1775 Pale Ale refers to the date of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, which is also commemorated on the Independence’s crest. Following the opening of Jack’s House at the club’s new offices on Elizabeth Avenue this month, the club’s official beer will give fans something enjoyable for gameday.

“That’s pretty much a classic American pale ale,” said NoDa’s Head Brewer Bart Roberts. “We used some newer hops like El Dorado and some really old-school, pungent hops like Simcoe to give it a nice, refreshing bitterness to it. It’s going to be really aromatic, and it’s going to be an awesome beer, especially for watching soccer.”
