Republic FC shot-stopper’s full-stretch save against Switchbacks wins weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Sacramento Republic FC goalkeeper Josh Cohen has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 6 of the 2018 season as his full-stretch save in the USL Game of the Week against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on April 18 took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Cohen continued to burnish his reputation as one of the leading goalkeepers in the USL as produced a first-half save that saw him just keep out a fine flicked header by Colorado Springs’ AJ Ajeakwa from tucking inside the right post, a denial that even drew congratulatory acknowledgment from the Switchbacks forward.

Cohen’s save earned 31 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. San Antonio FC’s Diego Restrepo finished second on 22 percent for his point-blank save that kept out Fresno FC’s Juan Pablo Caffa last Sunday night, while Penn FC’s Romuald Peiser finished third on 20 percent for his close-range denial with his legs against the Charleston Battery’s Patrick Okonkwo last Saturday night.
