ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Saint Louis FC announced on Friday it had acquired midfielder Edward Opoku on loan from Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew SC, pending league and federation approval.

Opoku was named the No. 5 junior class prospect in the Premier Development League last fall before signing a Generation adidas contract with Major League Soccer prior to the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. Opoku spent two seasons with AC Connecticut in the PDL before being selected by Columbus Crew SC with the 32nd overall pick in the SuperDraft.

A native of Konongo Odumasi, Ghana before moving to Millbrook, N.Y. as part of the Right to Dream Academy when he was 10 years old, Opoku competed for the University of Virginia for three seasons where he made 53 appearances and recorded 16 goals and nine assists. Opoku was named to the All-ACC Second Team in 2016 and 2017.

Prior to playing for the Cavaliers, Opoku attended the prestigious Millbrook School where he scored 85 goals during his prep career.
