Double denial was part of seven-save effort against reigning champs

TAMPA, Fla. – Richmond Kickers goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 5 of the 2018 season for his outstanding double-save in the second half of the Kickers clash with Louisville City FC took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Spangenberg’s net was put under consistent pressure during the second half at Slugger Field, and midway through the half the goalkeeper needed to be at his best to withstand the efforts of the hosts. Spangenberg first made a low save to keep out a shot from Shaun Francis, and then recovered to turn away Cameron Lancaster’s headed attempt on the rebound as part of a seven-save display on the night.

Spangenberg’s save earned 49 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. The LA Galaxy II’s Eric Lopez finished second on 27 percent for his tipped save that kept out Saint Louis FC’s Tony Rocha, while the New York Red Bulls II’s Evan Louro finished third on 11 percent for his sprawling save to deny former teammate Junior Flemmings and the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
