Rangers forward had four goals, two assists to open new season

TAMPA, Fla. – Swope Park Rangers forward Kharlton Belmar has been voted the USL Player of the Month for March to kick off the 2018 campaign.

Belmar recorded four goals and two assists in the Rangers’ opening three games of the 2018 season, continuing where he left off a season ago when he led the club to a second consecutive USL Western Conference championship with a team-leading 15 goals. Belmar, the 2015 USL Rookie of the Year, also surpassed 30 regular-season goals for his career, as he notched two goals apiece in victories against Reno 1868 FC and Seattle Sounders FC 2.

“It’s an honor,” said Belmar. “It’s a testament to all the hard work that all of us put in during preseason and getting ready for the season. We’ve got to continue to take that into the rest of the year and continue to just keep up the hard work and continue to push and carry on with the momentum.”

Belmar received 37 percent of a weighted poll that included the USL Technical Committee, a national panel of independent media representing every USL market and an online fan vote held at USLSoccer.com. FC Cincinnati goalkeeper Evan Newton finished second with 26 percent, while Charlotte Independence forward Jorge Herrera finished third with 22 percent.
