FENTON, Mo. – Saint Louis FC put in an impressive attacking performance but just could not get past a strong Fresno FC side, with the two teams forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Toyota Stadium – Saint Louis on Saturday night. After pushing hard but failing to hit the target throughout the first half, Saint Louis got handed an opportunity after a handball allowed forward Corey Hertzog to step up and bury a penalty kick, sending the keeper the wrong way in first-half stoppage time. Fresno fired right back at the start of the second half as midfielder Juan Pablo Caffa managed to perfectly flick on a header perfectly out of the reach of the goalkeeper. Saint Louis was next to respond after a tight middle period of the half when a backheel from midfielder Tony Rocha was cleared off the line by Fresno's Danny Barrera to keep it level as Saint Louis really started knocking on the door. The hosts kept on pushing but could not break down the Foxes defense as Fresno held on well to get the point.

Scoring
45+2’ – STL – Corey Hertzog (Penalty)
47’ – FRS – Juan Pablo Caffa (Bradley Kamdem Fewo)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. After starting life with two winless matches, Fresno has gone on an undefeated streak having earned two straight wins coming into this match, and earning another road point in the draw. Slightly down on its passing accuracy average for the season, dropping to 70.7 percent, the Foxes defense got the job done with 17 tackles at a 94.1 percent success rate to help hold on for a draw.

  • 2. Saint Louis FC had picked up its first win of the season on home turf in its last outing, the hosts put in another strong game at home as they dominated possession with 60.7 percent of the ball, but couldn’t convert that into chances.

  • 3. STLFC has struggled to finish its chances this season, and that trend continued in this match, coming into the match with a 35.71 percent shooting accuracy, Saint Louis went down from that number, with just three shots on target at a shooting accuracy of 21.4 percent, a trend that will need to change quickly to get the side moving in the right direction in the Western Conference standings.

USLSoccer.com Man of the Match:

Danny Barrera, Fresno FC – Useful at both ends of the pitch, Fresno midfielder Danny Barrera was vital in keeping the match tied, on offense he created one chance but the defense was where Barrera shined as he picked off the ball for three interceptions and a key goal-line clearance.
