USL East Bay Names McDermott as Sporting Director

Former professional player, experienced coach appointed by Hall Sports Ventures

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Mark Hall, Chief Executive Officer of Hall Sports Ventures, has named Andy McDermott as the Sporting Director of the group’s new USL East Bay franchise. The first official appointment at the club, McDermott brings more than 25 years of experience in the sport as both a professional player and in the coaching ranks.

McDermott also serves as Director of Community Relations for COPA Soccer Training Center, now under construction in Walnut Creek.

“In his expanded role, Andy will manage sporting activities for our new East Bay franchises,” said Hall. “This will include player and coaching staff contract management, player relations, and activities associated with competitive play for our new East Bay area expansion team.”

McDermott received his Bachelor of Science in 1998 from Northwestern University and graduated with a degree in Communications while also featuring prominently for the Wildcats on the field. McDermott was a three-time All-Big Ten selection during his college career, serving as team captain for three seasons, and recorded 20 goals and 19 assists in his career for the Wildcats.

Following his college career McDermott played for seven seasons in both the United Soccer League and Germany’s Regionnaliga, and acquired his U.S. Soccer Federation “B” license. As a coach he served as an assistant at Northwestern in addition to a Head Coaching position at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy in Los Angeles.

In addition to his career in soccer, McDermott is a respected sports conditioning and fitness expert certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine since 1999 and is a Third Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He writes a monthly article for “Muscle and Fitness Magazine” as its Body Weight Training Expert and has been a featured author and on-camera personality for numerous national media outlets. McDermott has also served as a police officer on the Tactical Response Unit for the Phoenix Police Department, while additionally acting as a head Physical Training Instructor for all law enforcement in Arizona.
