PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC announced on Wednesday it had signed defender Noah Franke to a one-year deal with a club option for the 2019 season, pending league and federation approval. Franke becomes the second rookie on the Hounds’ roster, joining Thomas Vancaeyezeele.

Franke appeared in two games for Riverhounds SC during the preseason after being selected in the fourth round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas. A former standout at Creighton University, Franke’s versatility was appealing to Pittsburgh Head Coach Bob Lilley.

“Noah is a quick, dynamic player who is very comfortable jumping into the attack and is versatile enough to play in a wide midfield or defending position,” said Lilley.

Franke featured in midfield for the Bluejays as he recorded four goals and 10 assists in 71 appearances over his collegiate career. Franke also competed last summer in the Premier Development League for the Tampa Bay Rowdies U23, recording one assist in nine appearances for the club.

Prior to arriving at Creighton, the Orlando, Fla. native also played for the PDL’s Orlando City U-23 during its run into the Fourth Round of the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, where the side faced off with Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers after defeating the USL’s Charleston Battery in a penalty shootout in the Third Round.

Riverhounds SC hosts its home opener this Saturday night when it welcomes Penn FC to Highmark Stadium for the first game in this year’s Keystone Derby Cup rivalry. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
