White Among Six Signings for NYRB II

Hume joins Orange County in permanent deal; Boskovic leads four TFC II additions

HARRISON, N.J. Brian White, who last summer was named the 2017 PDL Most Valuable Player, was among six signings announced by the New York Red Bulls II on Thursday ahead of the start of the new season. White was joined by Niko De Vera, Tom Barlow, Jared Stroud, Jose Aguinaga and Chris Lema, with all six players having been selected in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft in January.

White, New York's first round draft choice scored 17 goals and three assists for the New York Red Bulls U-23 in the Premier Development League last season before completing his college career at Duke University last fall. Over his four-year career for the Blue Devils, the Flemington, N.J. native recorded 23 goals and 11 assists.

A former standout at Akron, De Vera had his best season during his senior campaign earning All-MAC honors as a second-team honoree. The Camas, Wash., native started all 23 matches his senior campaign and tallied four assists as a defender.

Lema, a Red Bulls Academy product and Ridgefield, N.J. native, was selected 34th overall by FC Dallas in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft having previously been a four-year starter at Georgetown from 2014 to 2017, where he scored five goals and 12 assists, and part of the Red Bulls U-23 in the PDL.

ORANGE COUNTY BRINGS ON HUME: Orange County SC announced the signing of defender Walker Hume, bringing aboard the Dallas-born center back on a permanent basis after he had previously joined OCSC on loan from FC Dallas at the conclusion of the 2017 USL season.

“I’m very happy to have Walker back with us and am looking forward to having him with us for a full season. He made a big impact for us at the end of last season in the short period of time he was with us on loan from FC Dallas,” said Orange County SC Head Coach Braeden Cloutier. “He’s very comfortable on the ball and reads the game really well. He’s a great teammate who fits perfectly with how we want to play.”

Hume made nine appearances for Orange County on loan from FC Dallas, which selected the former Premier Development League champion in the second Round of the 2017 MLS Super Draft. Hume helped the Austin Aztex claim the PDL Championship in 2013 and subsequently featured for the Portland Timbers U-23s in the league, while also competing collegiately for the University of North Carolina.

BOSKOVIC LEADS FOUR TFC II SIGNINGS: Toronto FC II announced the signing of defender Robert Boskovic, who competed previously for the club as an Academy signing, among four additions to its squad for the 2018 USL season. Goalkeeper Drew Shepherd, defender Kyle Bjornethun and midfielder Alan Mariano Miño also signed with the club, with Miño’s signing pending league and federation approval.

Boskovic has made 25 appearances in three seasons for TFC II as an Academy signing, making his debut against AS Roma Primavera on July 28, 2015. Boskovic made his USL debut on August 15, 2015 against the Richmond Kickers and earned his first start in USL on September 9 against the Charlotte Independence.

Shepherd was selected by Toronto FC in the Second Round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. During his four year colligate career at Western Michigan University, Shepherd recorded a record of 34-12-10 with 29 career clean sheets. In 2017, Shepherd was named a USC Second Team All-American and USC Academic All-American after winning 16 of 21 games.

Bjornethun, 22, appeared in 26 matches for Portland Timbers 2 during the 2017 USL season, registering one assist while logging 2,037 minutes. He made his USL and T2 debut on March 25, 2017 against Real Monarchs. Prior to joining T2, Bjornethun spent four years at Seattle University where he started in 85 matches, registering nine goals and four assists. In 2016, Bjornethun was named WAC Defender of the Year and selected to the First Team All-Western Athletic Conference.

Miño, 23, made 10 appearances for Sud América in the Uruguayan 1st Division this past season, scoring twice. The native of Mercedes made 28 league appearances for Boca Unidos in the Primera B Nacional, the second division in Argentina, in 2016-17 before making his move to Uruguay. Miño tallied three goals during his time with Boca Unidos.
