Selbol Heads West, Joins Orange County

2017 Fans’ Choice USL Goal of the Year winner adds to OCSC attack

IRVINE, Calif. – Orange County Soccer Club announced on Thursday it had signed Nigerian winger Nansel Selbol. A two-time USL Western Conference champion with the Swope Park Rangers, the 20-year-old joins OCSC after making 55 appearances and tallying 10 goals and four assists over the past two seasons in the USL.

Selbol had a standout second season for the club in 2017, scoring nine goals and recording two assists during the season, including a strike against Seattle Sounders FC 2 on July 20 which claimed the 2017 USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Year award. Selbol also claimed the USL Goal of the Month award three times with spectacular goals in June, July and August.

“Nansel is an exciting, dynamic player that will add another dimension to our front line with his creativity and speed,” said Orange County Head Coach Braeden Cloutier. “He played a big part in the success of Swope Park the last couple of years. He has the ability to beat defenders off the dribble and create goals for not only himself, but his teammates as well.” 

Born in Jos, Nigeria, Selbol made was a former member of the Sporting Kansas City Academy before he signed with the Rangers ahead of the club’s inaugural season in 2016. Selbol also made his debut for Sporting Kansas City the same year and scored for the side against Trinidad & Tobago’s Central FC in the CONCACAF Champions League.
