RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC announced on Thursday it had acquired forwards Danny Musovski and Mohamed Thiaw on loan from its MLS partner the San Jose Earthquakes. The attacking duo had been signed by the Quakes earlier in the day and are now set to spend their rookie seasons in the USL.

Musovski was selected by San Jose with the 30th overall selection of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft after a stellar career for the University of Nevada - Las Vegas and the PDL’s FC Tucson. Musovski was a four-year starter and two-time All-America selection for UNLV. During his senior season in 2017, he scored 15 goals and added six assists in 16 appearances, earning Third Team All-America and Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors. He was also named the No. 19 senior prospect in the PDL entering the SuperDraft after scoring four goals and one assists for Tucson last season.

“It’s great to be here in Reno,” Musovski said. “I’ve heard a lot of great things about the team and I am excited to build chemistry and get going.”

Thiaw also competed in the PDL for the Portland Timbers U-23s and was the 35th overall pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft after concluding his collegiate career at the University of Louisville. The 23-year-old scored 61 goals and 20 assists over four seasons for the Cardinals and Cincinnati State. Thiaw was a two-time All-America selection and the 2015 Junior College Player of the Year at Cincinnati State before transferring to Louisville.

“It feels great to be on a great team,” Thiaw said. “I am hoping to have a successful season here with Reno. I am hoping to get a lot of goals for the team and a lot of wins.”

FURY FC MAKES IMPACT ADDITIONS: Ottawa Fury FC added a trio of players from its MLS partner the Montreal Impact with the loan acquisition of Belizean international Michael Salazar and Canadian defender Thomas Meilleur-Giguère from the Montreal Impact and the signing of young Canadian forward Gabriel Wiethaeuper-Balbinotti, subject to league and federation approval.

Both Salazar and Meilleur-Giguère return to Fury FC after both having spent time on loan with Ottawa in the 2017 season. Salazar featured in four Fury FC matches in 2017, as did Meilleur-Giguère while on loan from Montreal. Salazar has also scored five goals in 34 appearances over the past two seasons and will provide another attacking threat for Ottawa.

“It was important for us to bring someone in that had done well in the past with Fury FC and that can come and fit in the culture we have here,” said Fury FC General Manager Julian de Guzman. “Salazar understands the philosophy [Head Coach] Nikola [Popovic] has in place and helps complete the perfect picture we were aiming for in 2018.”

Balbinotti has been a standout for the Montreal Impact Academy U-18 program for the past three seasons, featuring in 44 games and accumulating 26 goals, and now enters the professional ranks by signing with Fury FC.

“I had a chance to see [Balbinotti] last year and am pleased to see him commit to our club,” said de Guzman. “He is a great addition to our group and will greatly benefit from Nikola’s expertise and experience in his development.”

MONTANO MAKES TULSA MOVE: Tulsa Roughnecks FC announced it had signed former Sacramento Republic FC and Louisville City FC defender Enrique Montano for the new season, adding experience to its back line with the California native.

“Enrique is a very dynamic left back, who is quick in the tackle with good size and speed,” said Roughnecks Head Coach David Vaudreuil. “He had a very successful run in Louisville and most recently down in Mexico, and we are excited to have him on the team.”

Montano has made 33 appearances in the USL in his career, including being part of back-to-back Louisville sides that reached the Eastern Conference Final of the USL Cup Playoffs in 2015 and 2016. Montano has already had an impact for the Roughnecks, scoring in the club’s 3-1 victory against Oral Roberts University earlier this week.

ACHEAMPONG LINKS UP WITH LOS DOS: The LA Galaxy II announced it had added midfielder Geoffrey Acheampong, the club announced today. Acheampong joins Los Dos after spending time with Bastia (France) and Veracruz (Mexico). Acheampong will be officially added to the team’s roster pending the receipt of an International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

“Geoffrey is a young, developing talent that we think can have a bright future within this club,” said LA Galaxy II Head Coach Mike Muñoz. “He’s a versatile player that can play multiple positions in our midfield. He’s a smart player, he’s technical and he’s got a fantastic work ethic.”

A native of Accra, Ghana, Acheampong played for one season at UC Santa Barbara before making the move to Europe in 2016. With the Gauchos, he earned 2015 Big West Freshman of the Year, 2015 Big West All-Freshman Team and 2015 All-Big West Honorable Mention. Out of high school, Acheampong was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Freshman Best XI. He is a graduate of the Cate School, near Santa Barbara, as is LA Galaxy midfielder Emmanuel Boateng.
