SAN ANTONIO – Texas native Kris Tyrpak will return for his second season with San Antonio FC in 2018 after the club announced on Thursday it had re-signed the midfielder pending league and federation approval. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Tyrpak made 27 appearances for SAFC in the 2017 regular season and USL Cup Playoffs, and finished tied for second on the team with six goals while also notching three assists. Tyrpak scored the fastest goal in SAFC history on Aug. 5, 2017 as he scored a second-minute goal against Orange County SC at Toyota Field.
“I’m excited to come back and play in front of the best fans in the USL,” said Tyrpak. “We have some unfinished business from last year, and we will work hard to bring a trophy to San Antonio this season. I can’t wait for the challenge ahead.”
Tyrpak arrived in San Antonio after spending the 2016 season with fellow USL Western Conference club the Swope Park Rangers, where he helped lead his team to the USL Western Conference Championship. Over three seasons in the USL, Tyrpak has scored 25 goals in 86 games across the regular season and USL Cup Playoffs.
“We’re looking forward to having Kris with us again,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He scored some impactful goals in his first season here and we’re looking forward to him improving on that in 2018. We’re excited to have Kris and the rest of the squad here for the start of training camp in the coming weeks.”
Originally from Dripping Springs, Texas, Tyrpak was named the Premier Development League’s Most Valuable Player in 2013 as he led the Austin Aztex to the PDL Championship. He was then selected by Chivas USA in the third round of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, and notched one goal and one assist in nine appearances in his lone season in Major League Soccer.
