NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville SC announced on Tuesday it had purchased central midfielder and captain Michael Reed from San Antonio FC ahead of its inaugural season in the USL this spring. The signing is pending league and federation approval, and the transfer fee and terms of the deal were not disclosed per club policy.

“We are looking to put the best possible team on the field by acquiring players through all means given to us,” said Nashville Head Coach Gary Smith. "Reed was a player we had identified as someone who would make a significant impact to our team's performance. A transfer was the best option in bringing him to Nashville SC."

Reed spent the past two seasons with SAFC and was named captain of the club in 2017. As captain, Reed led San Antonio to a second-place finish in the Western Conference and a trip to the Western Conference Semifinals of the USL Cup Playoffs.

Reed notched five goals and four assists in two seasons with SAFC, but was notable in playing a key role in all phases of the game for the club. This past season, Reed recorded a passing accuracy rate of 78.6 percent on 38.5 passes per 90 minutes, and defensively led the club’s midfielders in interceptions (41) and clearances (36), while also winning 96 of 160 duels and 24 of 35 tackles.

Reed, 30, joins a roster that includes a number of former teammates. The Albuquerque, N.M. native started his professional career with Minnesota United FC, where he played with defender Justin Davis. Reed then moved to Atlanta Silverbacks in 2015, where he played for Smith and alongside fellow midfielder Josh Hughes, defender Kosuke Kimura, and goalkeeper C.J. Cochran.
