CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati announced on Thursday it had signed veteran Argentinian midfielder Emmanuel Ledesma for the 2018 season, with the 29-year-old the latest new face to join the club for the new season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Formerly of English Championship side Middlesbrough FC, where he made 64 appearances and recorded nine goals and six assists over two seasons at the club, Ledesma brings extensive experience to Nippert Stadium. He most recently competed for the New York Cosmos in the 2017 season, where his 10 goals and six assists in 19 appearances earned him All-League honors.

“Emmanuel is a fantastic attacking player that has the ability to make something out of nothing. He has proven himself around the world and is coming off an excellent season with the Cosmos,” said FCC Head Coach Alan Koch. “We know that he will make a big impact with our club and we are excited to introduce him to our fans. He has an infectious personality and we look forward to working with him here in Cincinnati.”

A native of Quilmes, Argentina, Ledesma made the move to Europe in 2006 when he signed with Serie A club Genoa’s U19 team. He was then signed to the club’s first team in 2008 before being loaned out to English club Queens Park Rangers that season.

After leaving Genoa, Ledesma had a breakout season upon his return to England in 2011 as he scored four goals and an assist in 10 matches with Walsall FC. After his successful stint with Middlesbrough, he also competed for Rotherham United and Brentford FC in England before heading to Greece where he played for Panetolikos Agrinio. Last year he moved across the Atlantic to the Cosmos, where he helped the side reach the postseason.
