NASHVILLE, S.C. – The USL’s Nashville SC was unveiled as the next expansion team set to join Major League Soccer on Wednesday afternoon as club owner John Ingram, Nashville Mayor Megan Barry and Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam welcomed MLS Commissioner Don Garber for the official presentation at Country Music Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville.

Commenting on the news, USL President Jake Edwards said, “Today’s announcement in Nashville is indicative of the work the USL has done over the past five years to bring professional soccer to new, vibrant markets. We are happy for our friends at Nashville SC and the city of Nashville, and its fans will now get the opportunity to further demonstrate their passion for the club as it makes its debut in the USL alongside fellow new clubs in diverse cities such as Las Vegas, Fresno and Cary for the 2018 season.

“The USL continues to build a strong framework for professional soccer in this country. We look forward to additional expansion announcements as early as January, as our league continues to bring the thrill of professional soccer to millions of new fans across the country.”

The USL has grown to more than 30 teams for its 2018 season, with Fresno FC, Las Vegas Lights FC, Nashville SC, North Carolina FC and a new club owned and operated by Atlanta United set join the league. The league also recently announced expansion rights had been acquired in both Chicago and Oakland East Bay, with additional expansion announcements expected in January.
