SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Tuesday it had re-signed forward Ever Guzman for the 2018 USL season. The signing is pending league and federation approval. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Guzman remains in San Antonio after making nine regular-season appearances for the club in the 2017 season, having joined the club in August to bolster its attack. Guzman notched four goals for SAFC, claiming the USL Player of the Week award in the final week of the regular season and also scoring the game-winning goal in the club’s 3-1 victor against Tulsa Roughnecks FC in the Western Conference Quarterfinals of the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs.

“We are excited that Ever is coming back to San Antonio FC for a second season,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He impressed the coaching staff with his performances towards the end of last season and scored some valuable goals down the stretch for us. We look forward to having a full preseason with Ever and incorporating him into the 2018 team.”

A former player for Liga MX’s Monarcas Morelia, Guzman joined SAFC after a loan spell with Correcaminos UAT in Ascenso MX, where he scored five goals in 29 appearances since the start of 2016.

The 29-year-old had previously played for the Mexico National Team that claimed the 2005 FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru in 2005, where he competed alongside current El Tri standouts Carlos Vela and Giovani Dos Santos. Guzman finished with the second-most goals in the tournament (four), and scored the third and final goal in the 3-0 win over Brazil in the final.

“I’m very happy to return to San Antonio FC” said Guzman. “I’m thankful towards the fans and the front office for making it happen and for the support they’ve shown me here. We had a great campaign last season and I’m looking forward to making 2018 even better.”
