Tulsa Roughnecks FC news and notes

  • Current record: 14-13-4, 46pts

  • The Roughnecks clinched their first trip to the USL Cup Playoffs last Saturday night with a 1-0 win against Seattle Sounders FC 2 at ONEOK Field.

  • The lone goal of the match came through Christian Thierjung early in the first half, and the Roughnecks then preserved the lead after being reduced to 10 men in first-half stoppage time when Collin Fernandez received a second yellow card.

  • The Roughnecks sit level on points with Black Gold Derby rival OKC Energy FC going into the final game of the season, but hold the edge in total wins, meaning a victory would keep the side in sixth going to the postseason.

  • Should Tulsa fail to take victory, it could fall to eighth place in the Western Conference should seventh-place OKC Energy FC at least draw with Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Sunday evening, and eighth-place Sacramento Republic FC defeat Reno 1868 FC on Saturday night.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC news and notes

  • Current record: 11-12-8, 41pts

  • The Switchbacks continued their late-season run of form with a 1-0 win against Sacramento Republic FC last Saturday night in their home finale at Weidner Field.

  • The only goal of the match came in the 36th minute through Kevaughn Frater for his 10th goal of the regular season. The victory wasn't enough to keep Colorado Springs in postseason contention, however, as OKC Energy FC's victory on Sunday evening eliminated the Switchbacks.

  • Josh Suggs was named to the USL Team of the Week following his assist on the winner and a strong defensive performance, with the Switchbacks restricting Sacramento to just four shots in the contest.

  • Colorado Springs will be without midfielder Rony Argueta on Saturday night due to a one-game suspension for caution accumulation. Argueta had played every minute of the regular season over the first 31 games in 2017.

Series Notes

  • The Switchbacks lead the all-time series between the two sides 3-2-0 after earning a 3-0 victory on May 5 at Weidner Field in the most recent meeting between the teams.
