Rochester Rhinos news and notes

  • Current record: 12-7-11, 47pts

  • The Rhinos are coming off a 1-0 win against Bethlehem Steel FC on Tuesday night in the ESPN 3 USL Game of the Week at Capelli Sport Stadium.

  • The lone goal of the match came in the 38th minute through Jochen Graf, who put away Kendaro Forbes’ angled cross for his team-leading ninth goal of the regular season.

  • The Rhinos win was their second in a row. The side now has a chance to move into third place in the Eastern Conference standings with a win should the Charlotte Independence take either a win or a draw against the Charleston Battery later on Saturday night.

  • Rhinos goalkeeper Tomas Gomez is in line to claim his second consecutive Golden Glove award going into Saturday's game, with his 0.73 goals-against average leading the USL.

New York Red Bulls II news and notes

  • Current record: 13-13-5, 44pts

  • The Red Bulls II earned a thrilling 6-5 win against Orlando City B last Saturday night at Orlando City Stadium as the visitors held on late to secure the win.

  • NYRB II jumped out to a 5-1 lead thanks to a hat trick from Stefano Bonomo and goals from Florian Valot, and Arun Basuljevic before OCB hit back with a pair of goals. Valot put home a late penalty kick three minutes from time to make it 6-3, and while Orlando scored twice in stoppage time New York was able to hold on for a crucial three points.

  • Bonomo’s hat trick was part of a strong week to earn him USL Player of the Week honors, and he was joined by Valot on the USL Team of the Week.

  • The Red Bulls II clinched their place in the USL Cup Playoffs on Thursday night when Orlando City B's defeat to the Tampa Bay Rowdies eliminated OCB from playoff contention.

  • New York has scored at least two goals in eight consecutive contests, a mark that should be challenged by the Rhinos' typically stingy defense.

Series Notes

  • The Rhinos hold a narrow lead in the regular season series between these two teams with a 2-1-5 record against NYRB II, but NYRB II leads the season series between the two with a 1-0-1 record after its 2-1 victory on Aug. 5.
