Fingertip save against FC Cincinnati finishes top in online poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Saint Louis FC goalkeeper Devala Gorrick’s top-shelf save against FC Cincinnati has been voted the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Month for September of the 2017 season. Gorrick’s save had previously claimed USL Save of the Week honors for Week 27 of the regular season.

A USL All-League selection a season ago, Gorrick once again showed off his ability late in Saint Louis’ clash with FC Cincinnati on Sept. 23. With his side defending a lead late in the contest, FCC midfielder Jimmy McLaughlin found space for a curling shot from the left side of the penalty area toward the top-right corner of the net. Gorrick went at full stretch to get a fingertip to the effort, turning it away brilliantly for a corner kick.

Gorrick's save received 47 percent of the online poll conducted at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Monday morning. Real Monarchs SLC’s Andrew Putna finished second on 33 percent for his outstanding penalty kick save on Sacramento Republic FC’s Sammy Ochoa to preserve a shutout late in the Monarchs’ 2-0 win at Papa Murphy’s Park, and the Harrisburg City Islanders’ Sean Lewis took third with 17 percent for his excellent double-save against Saint Louis FC at Toyota Stadium – Saint Louis.
