OKC Energy FC news and notes

  • Current record: 12-11-7, 43pts

  • Energy FC moved within range of a place in the playoffs with a 3-0 victory against the LA Galaxy II last Sunday evening to open up a three-game season-ending home stand.

  • Jose Angulo scored a hat trick in the match, opening the scoring with a penalty kick in the 38th minute before two more goals in the 67th and 68th minutes that wrapped up the victory.

  • Angulo was named the USL Player of the Week for his performance as he recorded the 10th hat trick in the USL this season.

  • The win was both the second in a row for Energy FC and the second straight where it recorded three goals in a game. OKC had only recorded three-or-more goals on three occasions this season prior to its last two contests.

Swope Park Rangers news and notes

  • Current record: 16-7-7, 55pts

  • The Rangers rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a dramatic 2-2 draw against Rio Grande Valley FC last Saturday night at H-E-B Park.

  • The Rangers scored twice in the final 15 minutes, the first an own goal before Kharlton Belmar equalized in the first minute of stoppage time.

  • Belmar's goal was his 14th of the season, continuing his standout year. The Rangers forward has scored in five consecutive games going into Sunday's contest, one off the season-high of six consecutive games with a goal recorded by Reno 1868 FC's Dane Kelly earlier this year.

  • The Rangers are now undefeated in their last four games, going 3-0-1 in that span to move into third place in the Western Conference. The Rangers are tied on points with both second-place Reno 1868 FC and fourth-place San Antonio FC, both of whom play on Saturday night.

Series Notes

  • The all-time series between these two sides is tied at 3-3-0 following two wins this year by the Rangers, who will look for a season-sweep on Sunday evening.
