Rhinos look to stop Louisville clinching Eastern Conference crown

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After missing a chance to seal the No. 1-seed in the USL Eastern Conference on Wednesday night, Louisville City FC will conclude its three-game road trip through the northeast with a visit to face the Rochester Rhinos knowing a victory will be enough to seal the honor. The match kicks off at 6:05 p.m. ET on Saturday night at Capelli Sport Stadium.

Rochester Rhinos news and notes

  • Current record: 11-7-10, 43pts

  • The Rhinos come into this match following a surprise 1-0 loss to the Richmond Kickers last Saturday night at City Stadium.

  • The game remained scoreless until the 80th minute when Richmond stole the win with a late goal to hand Rochester a second consecutive defeat on its week-long trip.

  • The loss to the Kickers extended the Rhinos' winless streak to four matches, and saw the side drop to fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Rochester is now two points behind the fourth-place Tampa Bay Rowdies, with both teams having four games to go in the regular season.

  • Saturday's game kicks off a string of three home games in the final four regular-season contests for the Rhinos, who will also welcome fellow playoff contenders Bethlehem Steel FC and the New York Red Bulls II to Capelli Sport Stadium in the final month of the season.

  • The Rhinos would clinch a place in the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs this weekend with a victory against Louisville and a loss for Orlando City B against the Kickers on Sunday evening at City Stadium.

Louisville City FC news and notes

  • Current record: 16-6-7, 55pts

  • Louisville wraps up its road trip on Saturday after being stunned by Toronto FC II on Wednesday night as the Reds claimed a 1-0 win over the conference leaders at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

  • A goal in the 73rd minute by Canadian U20 international Shaan Hundal was enough for Toronto to claim the victory, with Louisville losing Paco Craig to a second yellow card in the 90th minute.

  • Louisville was for a second consecutive contest held scoreless by TFC II as the hosts claimed the regular season series with their victory after earning a 0-0 draw at Slugger Field earlier in the season.

  • Louisville has finished second in the USL Eastern Conference in each of its first two seasons, and will clinch its first No. 1-seed with one win in its last three regular-season matches.

Series Notes

  • Louisville leads the all-time regular-season series with a 2-1-2 record after it took a 2-1 win at Slugger Field on Sept. 20 at Slugger Field in the first meeting of the season between the teams.
