Bethlehem Steel FC news and notes

  • Current record: 11-11-5, 38pts

  • Steel FC moved back into the top eight in the USL Eastern Conference with a 3-2 victory against in-state rival the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Sunday afternoon at Goodman Stadium.

  • Adam Najem opened the scoring before a brace by Cory Burke gave Bethlehem a three-goal lead before halftime. The Riverhounds rallied, but Steel FC held on for a vital victory to its playoff pursuit.

  • Bethlehem’s victory ended a five-game winless streak for the side, which had been its longest in the 2017 season.

  • Burke’s goals moved him to eight for the season and into the team-lead past Seku Conneh with seven.

Tampa Bay Rowdies news and notes

  • Current record: 12-7-8, 44pts

  • The Rowdies earned a 1-0 victory on Saturday night against the Charlotte Independence in front of 7,768 fans at Al Lang Stadium for their 10th home win of the season.

  • Defender Hunter Gorskie scored the only goal of the game, his second in three appearances since joining the club, as goalkeeper Matt Pickens recorded his eighth shutout of the season.

  • The victory moved the Rowdies back into fourth place in the Eastern Conference, and the side has a chance to finish in the top two should it take advantage of its remaining five games in the regular season.

  • Tampa Bay has won only twice on the road this season, but took a 3-2 victory against the Harrisburg City Islanders in its most recent away games on Sept. 6.

  • This is the first meeting between the sides, who will also meet on Saturday night at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Fla. to complete the home-and-home series.
