Reno 1868 FC news and notes

  • Current record: 14-6-7, 49pts

  • 1868 FC missed out on the chance to clinch a place in the playoff on this past Saturday night night following a 1-0 loss to Rio Grande Valley FC at H-E-B Park.

  • A 32nd-minute Justin Bilyeu penalty kick was enough for the Toros to overcome Reno, as a red card to Dane Kelly in the 79th minute made hopes of a comeback vanish.

  • Wednesday night's loss ended a seven-match unbeaten run which has seen Reno push San Antonio FC for second place in the USL Western Conference.

  • Kelly's red card will see him unavailable for Wednesday night's game, but the co-leading scorer in the USL this season will be available for Saturday night's clash with the Portland Timbers 2 at Greater Nevada Field.

OKC Energy FC news and notes

  • Current record: 10-10-7, 37pts

  • Energy FC comes into this match following a memorable 2-0 victory over Black Gold Derby rivals Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Sunday night at Taft Stadium.

  • Both OKC goals came in the first 15 minutes against the Roughnecks through impressive strikes, the first five minutes in by Miguel Gonzalez, and the second by Jose Barril after a great 40-yard run and finish from the top of the penalty area in the 13th minute.

  • The victory moved Energy FC into the eighth and final playoff place in the USL Western Conference, one point ahead of ninth-place Orange County SC with five games to go in the regular season.

  • OKC has not won two matches in a row since back-to-back wins against Reno 1868 FC on Aug. 2 and Real Monarchs SLC on Aug. 5. That marked just the third time this season Energy FC had won consecutive matches.

Series Notes

  • Energy FC won the only other meeting between the two sides, a 1-0 victory on Aug. 2 at Taft Stadium when Jose Angulo scored the only goal of the game.
